ABOUT

Vision

Wilp d’mootxw – nec’a yikh reflects the health vision of the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en peoples, their teachings, traditions, history and culture.

We adhere to the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en Indigenous Care Model based on:

  1. Respect
  2. Working Together (with a cultural foundation of collectivity and inclusivity)
  3. Using Indigenous language as a guiding principle to strengthen and anchor health service delivery
  4. Being strategic

After centuries of ongoing colonization, the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en embrace this opportunity to lead the development of a culturally safe, community-informed primary care centre inspired by the principles of Amma Haldalxw (Good Medicine).

Our model of is inclusive of modern medicine and culturally appropriate wellness approaches that affirm the rights of Indigenous peoples to maintain and strengthen their health systems. It is a tangible expression of reconciliation, where healing means not only the recovery of health, but the restoration of dignity, culture, and self-determination.

Collectively, we have built a roadmap from a Sickness System to a Wellness System based on the teachings of our ancestors.
